Full Itinerary
Arrival in Tanzania
Upon your arrival at the airport, we’ll arrange a seamless transfer to pick you up and whisk you away to your hotel in the vibrant city of Arusha. Upon arrival at your hotel, you’ll be warmly greeted by our team and introduced to your experienced guide, who will lead you through a comprehensive pre-hike briefing.
During this briefing, you’ll have the opportunity to cross-check your hiking gear, ensuring that you’re fully prepared for the adventure ahead. From ensuring the proper fit of your boots to confirming the essentials in your backpack, we’ll ensure that you have everything you need for a successful and enjoyable climb up Mount Meru.
Accommodation: Bamboo village/related hotel (Bed & Breakfast)
Arusha to Momela gate then Hike up to Meriakamba Huts
Your first day of hiking will commence with an escort by a knowledgeable ranger from Momela Gate, ensuring a safe and informative start to your journey. Trekking for approximately 5 to 6 hours, you’ll traverse through the enchanting landscapes of Arusha National Park, immersing yourself in its natural beauty and diverse wildlife.
Your day’s hike will culminate at Meriakamba Hut, where you’ll arrive just in time for a well-deserved dinner. Relax and unwind as you settle into your mountain accommodation, surrounded by the tranquillity of the wilderness, preparing for the adventures that lie ahead.
Meriakamba Huts to Saddle Huts
Following breakfast, begin your day’s hike, which will vary in duration between 3 to 5 hours, from Meriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut. The trek will lead you through captivating terrain, offering glimpses of the surrounding flora and fauna. In the afternoon, embark on a further hike to Little Meru, reaching an elevation of 3,820 meters.
This additional ascent provides an opportunity to enjoy breathtaking views of the landscape below, illuminated by the setting sun. Capture the awe-inspiring scenery and savor the moment before returning to Saddle Hut for a restful evening, surrounded by the tranquility of the mountain.
Summit Day
The summit day begins with an early start at 1:30 am, as you prepare to trek to the summit of Mount Meru. The route will take you past both Rhino Point at 3,800 meters and Cobra Point at 4,350 meters, offering stunning panoramic views along the way. Take your time at the summit to soak in the breathtaking scenery before beginning the descent back to Meriakamba Hut.
The descent allows for a different perspective of the landscape, offering a chance to reflect on the journey and the achievement of reaching the summit. Arriving back at Meriakamba Hut, you can rest and rejuvenate, surrounded by the beauty of the mountain, before continuing your descent the following day.
Momela Gate & Departure
On the final day of your descent, you’ll complete the last section of the journey, gradually making your way down the slopes of Mount Meru. As you descend, take in the sights and sounds of the surrounding wilderness one last time, cherishing the memories of your adventure. Upon reaching the base, you’ll be met by our team who will pick you up and transport you back to Arusha.
Once back in Arusha, take some time to freshen up and prepare for your departure, reflecting on the incredible experiences and achievements of your Mount Meru climb. Depart with a sense of fulfilment and the knowledge that you’ve conquered one of Tanzania’s most iconic peaks, leaving behind memories that will last a lifetime.
