Majestic Mount Kilimanjaro is a breathtaking landmark in Tanzania, offering awe-inspiring beauty and captivating terrain. While climbing the mountain is a popular choice, you can still experience its magnificence without reaching the summit. Our Sneak Peek of the Peak Hike provides a thrilling Kilimanjaro day trip, allowing you to ascend the initial stretch of the renowned Marangu Route. This trail winds through a rainforest alive with the sounds of birdlife and the sights of curious blue monkeys, offering a glimpse of Kilimanjaro’s splendours.
The journey begins at Marangu Gate (1800m/5905ft), a scenic 2 to 3-hour drive from vibrant Arusha. During your hike, you’ll encounter tired hikers descending from the summit. Offer them a ‘Hi 5’ for their effort.
The hike to Mandara Hut takes around three hours, so take breaks to rest your legs and enjoy a tasty lunch at the Hut. After replenishing yourself, embark on the short but challenging walk to the Maundi Crater.
On clear days, the views to the east over Taveta and to the northwest to Mawenzi Peak are stunning, so don’t forget your camera! After soaking in the beauty, hike back down to the Marangu Gate, where our vehicle will be waiting to drive you, tired but happy, back to Arusha.
